THEY have been rewarded for going the extra mile in helping people that suffer from a lung disease.

The Portsmouth branch of the Breath Easy group, which helps patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, walked away with two awards at a regional awards ceremony held by the British Lung Foundation.

The group were crowned winners in the Raising Awareness Campaign category, and runners up for Best New Group at the Breath of Fresh Air awards.

Group member Eric Compton said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to win, especially because we have only been going for a year.

‘We just want to continue our work.’

Dominic Papineau, development officer for the BLF, said: ‘The aim of the awards is to reward Breath Easy groups that go the extra mile in doing their work, and Eric and the team have done a fantastic job of raising the profile of the group and supporting its members.’
