MORE than 5,000 journeys were carried out in the first week by a new patient transport service.

South Central Ambulance Service took over the patient transport services across Hampshire at the start of this month.

It will be serving Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport, Havant and Waterlooville, and involves:

- Transporting patients to
and from outpatient appointments

- Returning patients home following discharge from hospital

- Taking renal patients for dialysis

- Bringing patients back to Hampshire for treatment who were being treated elsewhere
