SEVERAL members of the public who took advantage of a free health check could have helped avert major problems further down the line.

Rotary Fareham Meon hosted its annual event in Fareham Shopping Centre with nurses from St Johns Ambulance and the Stroke Association on Saturday.

Rotary member Brian Ray said: ‘From 9am until 4.30pm we conducted more than 150 tests, and as a result five members of the public were advised to see their GP within seven days and a further 21 were advised to pay a visit within a month.’

‘Rotary is grateful to the management of the shopping centre for allowing us to use the space and of course to the hardworking St John nurses – it is a very worthwhile free service which may save some from a debilitating stroke.’
