IT’S not a job he does for praise, but Dr Partha Kar was touched when he was put up for an award.
Dr Kar is a diabetes consultant and clinical lead, at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham.
Last year he was crowned Hospital Doctor of the Year, at The News Best of Health Awards.
He was nominated by his patient Laura Cleverly.
He said: ‘Being nominated for the Best of Health awards was a pleasant surprise, on a personal level.
‘You come to work in the belief you would be able to help someone, you assume it’s part of the job, so why have accolades if you are doing what you are supposed to do?
‘However, there is always something inherently nice when your work is recognised by a patient.’
This week we’ve launched The Best of Health Awards for 2013.
‘As a department, we have been fortunate enough to receive multiple accolades locally and nationally, judged by peers, but this particular one has always been the most cherished, simply because it is at the core of what I try and do – improve patient care,’ added Dr Kar.
‘And there is no bigger accolade than your patient recognising that.
‘If you feel you have someone you would have liked to thank, then I suggest you nominate them in these awards.
‘It could perhaps be as an acknowledgement for the role they have played or continue to do so for improvement of patient care.’
There are 12 categories.
