WITH her new kidney, Tracy West wants to ensure she lives life to the full.

But she knows her rare transplant was only done thanks to the expertise of the renal unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham.

That’s why Tracy, 51, of Bryher Island, Port Solent, is putting them forward for Hospital Team of the Year at the Best of Health Awards 2013.

As previously reported, Tracy is only the third person at QA to have a procedure called the ABO incompatible (ABOi) kidney transplant.

It meant she was able to take her father Michael West’s kidney, despite them being different blood groups.

Tracy said: ‘The help and support I’ve received from the renal team has been second to none.

‘From the start when I met Alison Hughes, my consultant and one of the loveliest people I have ever met, to Lucy Chester and the whole of the transplant team, which enabled me to have this transplant.

‘All the ward staff on G9 couldn’t have done more for me.

‘Considering the type of operation I’ve been through, I could not have got through this without them.

‘Words could never express how grateful my father and I are.

‘We have all grown very close, and it feels like one huge family when I attend clinic twice a week.

‘I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving me a second chance at life, one I intend to grab with both hands and live to the fullest.’
