THE trust that provides ambulance coverage for the county is advising people to stay safe this winter.

South Central Ambulance Service (Scas) is giving the advice so people avoid becoming ill or having an accident.

The advice includes:

- Maintain good hand hygiene, especially if you are coughing and sneezing near others;

- Find out the opening hours of your pharmacy over Christmas and New Year and get your prescriptions in time;

- Wear warm layers when inside and outside as this will help retain body heat in the cold temperatures and sensible shoes for grip;

- Boost your immune system by eating lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Mark Ainsworth, operations director for Scas, said: ‘We would encourage members of the public to be prepared for winter by looking after your wellbeing as well as looking out for your friends, relatives and neighbours.

‘We would also like to remind the public to use our services appropriately and only call 999 if
essential.’
