A SUPPORT group in the Portsmouth area is hoping TV dramas and soaps will raise the awareness of breastfeeding.

Today is the start of National Breastfeeding Awareness Week, and Solent NHS Trust’s Breastfeeding Support and Healthy Weight Team hopes to drum up more business by getting popular television shows on board.

Amanda Malthouse, specialist practitioner breastfeeding, said: ‘British dramas and soaps have achieved a great deal when it comes to tackling difficult issues such as cancer or addiction, yet something as natural as breastfeeding is rarely seen on our TV screens.

‘We believe TV programmes could play a significant role in encouraging the public to embrace and support breastfeeding.’
