THE MAYOR of Havant will help celebrate a Waterlooville leisure centre’s 20th anniversary.

Councillor Ken Smith will raise a toast to two decades of swimming and getting fit at the Horizon Leisure Centre.

Staff at the centre, which is run by a not-for-profit charity, have calculated that there have been 10 million visits since the centre opened.

Centre manager Marie Wilkinson said: ‘It’s amazing to think of all use the swimming pool and leisure centre have had in the last 20 years.

‘I am sure that soon we will have our third generation of swimmers attending our Swim School.’

A major refurbishment of the changing rooms begins this month and should be completed by the new year.

Cllr Smith will join staff and some original members for a celebratory breakfast at 8am on Friday.
