THEY came close last year, but this time staff from the University of Portsmouth’s Dental Academy didn’t leave without getting the top gong at the Best of Health Awards.

The academy, made up of around 65 workers, was named as the winner in the Dental Practice of the Year category.

Last year the team from the academy were runners-up at the awards at Portsmouth Guildhall.

Nominations flooded in for this dental practice with accolades including ‘perfect service’ ‘warm and friendly reception staff’, ‘efficient’, ‘polite’ and ‘helpful’.

Accepting the award on behalf of the dental staff was Gemma Potts, senior course administrator at the academy.

She said: ‘We were so delighted to have won this award.

‘We would like to thank the patients who nominated us and the team for their hard work, which has got us this award.

‘There are about 65 people who work at the academy and each one deserves this.

‘Thank you to those who voted for us.’

Staff at Gowers Dental Surgery, in Clarendon Road, Southsea, walked away as runners-up at the awards.
