A PROJECT that supports young carers has won a national award.

Roundhouse, a joint Portsmouth City Council and Cranstoun scheme has won the Young Carers category at the Children and Young People Now Awards 2014.

Roundhouse works with families where a parent has a problem with drugs or alcohol.

Jane Steggall, young carers specialist services co-ordinator at the council said: ‘I’m delighted Roundhouse has received this exciting accolade.

‘It recognises the work we do to provide practical support, increase understanding of addiction, offer positive activities and reduce the impact on the young carer, and has meant young people have reduced their caring responsibilities.
