PHEW, what a scorcher!
Temperatures are due to soar this weekend as summer arrives in the UK.
The Met Office says the sunshine that arrived today will stay until at least next weekend, and temperatures in the Portsmouth area will reach around 25C (77F) or more.
A spokeswoman from the Met Office said: ‘The good news is it’s going to carry on until next week.
‘Saturday will see temperatures in the mid-20s, maybe between 24C and 25C, then going into Sunday they will rise to between 25 and 26C.
‘There are temperatures predicted in the 30s, but that will be more around the Heathrow area.
‘The Portsmouth area and the south coast is usually a little cooler, but the national average temperature for this time of year is 20.4C (68.7F).’
The reason for the weather returning to a more summery climate is to do with the jet stream moving back in position north of Scotland, bringing areas of high pressure to the majority of the British Isles.
It’s good news for events this weekend, including a classic car rally in Waterlooville, and the Bedhampton Summer Show, both tomorrow, and the South Coast Proms tonight and tomorrow at Whale Island.
