PEOPLE are being encouraged to help change attitudes towards food waste.

It is estimated that in Hampshire people throw away 62,000 tonnes of food in rubbish bins every year, the majority of which could have been eaten.

Now the county council is looking for volunteers to help spread the word on how families can save money by making the most of the food they buy, throwing away less and trying out home composting.

Being a volunteer involves giving talks to groups, students and businesses, attending events to promote food advice, contributing articles to the media and showing people how to compost. E-mail waste.prevention@hants.gov.uk or call 01962 832286.
