HAMPSHIRE’S museum bosses say they will work towards ensuring that Havant’s historic nursery rhyme tiles are displayed locally.
The comments from Councillor Keith Chapman, who heads culture and recreation in the county, come as residents are campaigning to keep the tiles in Havant.
As previously reported, eight of the restored tile panels from the old War Memorial Hospital are in storage in Winchester, while two are on display at The Spring in Havant.
Cllr Chapman said: ‘The Havant nursery rhyme tile panels have been added to the core collections of the arts and museums service where they will be cared for the benefit of the people of Hampshire and in particular the residents of Havant. We’re delighted that our arts and museums service has been able to work with The Spring and the wider community and play its part in saving the tile panels for Havant.
‘We are planning to display the complete set of panels, which are heavy and fragile, at The Spring later in 2013 and create an online exhibition from April 2013.’
He added: ‘We will continue to work with interested parties locally in support of displaying these iconic objects in the longer term.’
