A HERO neighbour rescued a woman from a blaze at her home in the early hours of this morning.

The drama unfolded after a fire broke out in the lounge of the two-storey property in Ibsley Grove, Havant, at 1am.

While firefighters were on their way, the woman yelled for help from her bedroom window as the fire intensified.Luckily, a resident rushed to her aid and got a ladder before helping her down.

When crews arrived they put out the flames and assessed the damage made.

Two fire engines from Havant and one pump from Cosham led the operation.

Martyn Elliott, green watch manager for Havant fire station, said: ‘A lady was rescued by a neighbour from the first floor of the house.

She was calling out to the neighbours and one of them got a ladder and helped her down.

‘We attended the house and had to break down the front door in order to extinguish the fire.’

An investigation is being carried out by Hampshire Constabulary and fire officers.
