A DINNER and dance evening raised thousands of pounds for an armed forces charity.

The Heroes Dinner, which took place at the Marriott Hotel, Southampton Road, Portsmouth, raised £6,500 for the Help for Heroes charity.

The event was supported by many, including Portsmouth’s Lord Mayor Cheryl Buggy and model Lucy Pinder.

Money was raised through ticket sales, donation boxes and a raffle, which generated around £4,000.

Organiser Clair Payne said: ‘I am delighted the evening was such a success.

‘We have such a great mix of guests here from people and businesses who want to support our blokes, to serving and ex-serving local military.

‘The crowd were simply great. Everyone got right into the spirit of things and were so generous.

‘The support for this fundraiser has been incredible and I’m overwhelmed by the generosity shown. Portsmouth Marriott donated the welcome reception drinks and everything from the raffle prizes to the helium was given free.

‘These donations are vital to make the event viable so all the funds raised go to the charity and not on costs.’
