A DAY at the races in the summer with a tipple and a flutter is many people’s idea of a perfect day out.
That’s why so many pubs in our area organise coach trips for customers to events at Goodwood throughout the summer.
From the Festival of Speed, to Ladies Day to family fun days, pubs have a long history of ferrying punters to the West Sussex course for a beer and a bet.
One of those is the Robin Hood, in Homewell, Havant.
Manager Peter Smith said the pub has had close links with the historic racecourse for years and there is high demand for the trips.
This year they have chosen the Family Fun Day on August 28.
Mr Smith said: ‘We fancied going to something different this year.
‘We normally go to Ladies Day for Glorious Goodwood but that involves people taking a day off work.
‘Instead we are going on the August Bank Holiday. If the weather’s nice it’s a great day out, you can have a couple of drinks and enjoy a bit of a flutter and soak up the atmosphere.
‘Afterwards we will all be coming back here for an Australian-themed party which marks the weekend three years ago when a member of staff, Lyn Hawkins, moved to Australia.
‘All in all it’s going to be a brilliant day.’
There are 49 spaces on the coach and the £45 ticket includes travel and a buffet on arrival.
