Britain’s Got Talent day dawned in Horndean today.
The Morrisons supermarket in the village was the magnet for hopefuls intent on getting a slice of stardom.
Entertainers young and old began arriving at the store for auditions for the hit ITV show, hosted by Ant and Dec.
Morrisons is sponsoring the programme this year and the Horndean store is one of only six in the UK to host auditions.
A production team from ITV set up an audition area in the supermarket’s car park.
More than 30 people of all ages waited to take their turn in auditions for TV’s Britain’s Got Talent ahead of the 10am start today, with more joining the queue every minute.
They included Phoebe McCallan,14, of Widley, who hoped to impress the judges with a comic dance performance she learnt just 10 days ago for the Woking Dance Festival.
‘I think it went really well’ she said. ‘Britain’s Got Talent doesn’t do much musical theatre so I hope that will change this year and that I will do well.
At the front of the queue was eight-year-old Briony Way, from Locarno Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, who wanted to impress the judges with her tap dancing skills.
She said: ‘I’ve been dancing since I was two-and-a-half but this is the first time I’ve done anything like this.’
She added she would love to have a chance to meet one of the BGT judges, Bishops Waltham’s Amanda Holden.
Other early arrivals included Sydney Jennings, 12, Laburnum Grove, Copnor, who was singing Castle in the Clouds from Les Miserables and Ellie Hancock, 14, St James’s Close, Clanfield, singing a song she wrote herself called Armour.
The auditions go on until 4pm today.
Chris Waring, general manager at Morrisons Horndean, said: ‘We’re looking forward to finding out which of our customers have secret talents and then hopefully cheering them on during the live auditions.’
Britain’s Got Talent is the UK’s highest rated entertainment show of 2012, having attracted a peak audience of 14.5m viewers during the series six final.
The show’s YouTube channel recently exceeded one billion views.
The judges this year are Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams.
