QUEEN Alexandra Hospital in Cosham are selling poppies this week to mark Armistice Day.
The hospital was first opened as a military hospital and hosts the largest Ministry of Defence Hospital Unit (MDHU) in the country.
At 11am on Sunday, there will be gatherings to pay tribute to all military personnel.
Peter Mellor, company secretary at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘Wearing a poppy is a symbol of remembrance to those who bravely sacrificed their lives to give us the way of life we have today.
‘We are very proud at being able to help in training and preparing our military colleagues in readiness for their deployment overseas while at the same time benefiting from their experience and expertise in helping to provide the highest standard of care for our patients.’
Cmdr Danny Follington, commanding officer of the MDHU, said: ‘Our thoughts are with all those currently deployed and our personnel from MDHU Portsmouth on operations.
‘We wear the poppy with pride as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude, and to show we will never forget our fallen.’
