AROUND 50 firefighters were called to Portsmouth Naval Base last night after a blaze broke out in an office block.
Ten fire engines and two aerial ladder platform vehicles were sent to the building, near to the Trafalgar Gate entrance at 9.49pm.
Crews arrived to find a fire in the roof of a two-story block, thought to be used as office space.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service officer in charge Steve Foye said, ‘Fire crews were on scene quickly and set to work.
‘Further resources were requested to keep the fire contained to prevent the fire spreading to other buildings.
‘We worked well together with the owners and other agencies which allowed us to contain and extinguish the fire swiftly.’
Crews remained on site for several hours to check for fire hotspots and to ventilate the area.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire was unknown, but an investigation is taking place.
