Colin Dexter, creator of the Inspector Morse series, died at his home in Oxford this morning, his publisher Macmillan has said.

The author, who was 86, was best known for his Inspector Morse series of novels, which were written between 1975 and 1999 and adapted as an ITV series, Inspector Morse, from 1987 to 2000
