AN investigation has been launched into a fire at a Fareham homeless hostel.

Fourteen firefighters and one officer from Fareham and Portchester fire stations were sent to a property in Gosport Road at around 1.35am today.

A fire in a stairwell was tackled by firefighters using breathing apparatus and an investigation has now been launched to find out how the fire started.

One person was led to safety after he remained asleep while the fire alarms sounded.
