IT’S on lots of people’s bucket lists to see – the Northern Lights.
And now one man in Portsmouth believes he’s caught the amazing spectacle on camera from his Locksway Road home.
Graeme Parton took the picture, left, and says he was amazed.
The 27-year-old said: ‘We were just watching TV on Tuesday night and luckily still had the curtains open to notice the sky slowly turning green.
‘At first we didn’t think it could be the Northern Lights, as I’d never heard of it being seen this far south, but I got online and saw that it had been spotted in Oxfordshire in the past few days, so I guess we just about caught it.
‘I won’t be ticking the Northern Lights off my to-do list yet – I’m sure it looks a lot different from Iceland or Norway – but it was a pleasant surprise to get a glimpse from the sofa.’
But Hampshire Astronomical Group was not convinced it was anything out of the ordinary.
David Harris, from the group, said: ‘I very much doubt it.
‘It looks much more like light pollution on underside of clouds.
‘I would expect to see some stars in the sky as many are expected to be brighter than any Northern Lights from Hampshire.’
