WE set off late at night and headed off for the French Alps. A group of 27 members of Everyone Active, at Fareham Leisure Centre, went to Alpe d’Huez to enjoy some winter fun.
This is the second time we have run such a trip – last year we went to Val D’Isere – and this year was definitely bigger and better.
Anybody can become an Everyone Active member and it gives them benefits all around the centre.
Because we went in such a big group, we got a good deal from the tour operator and it was handy because we all looked out for one another.
There were seven beginners that came with us. The ages of the group ranged from early 20s all the way up to people in their 60s. And we all got on like a house on fire.
In the day time we would go out together in groups and hit the slopes, then in the evening we would meet up in the chalet to have drinks, play games and sing karaoke.
There were a few funny moments too.
One of our members, Ray, was learning to ski with his wife. We were helping his wife, who was making her way nervously down the slope, and Ray kept shooting off. He would just point his skis and fly.
At one point he raced off and the next moment we saw him passing over our heads on the ski lift!
The week was great. Good exercise and really good for making friends.
The first three days were like summer and we had to put on sun tan lotion, then we had snow and freezing temperatures. I even had to put my glove across my face as it was so bitter!
I’m already thinking about next year’s trip, maybe Les Arcs, and if you want to come along too, just pop in to the centre and see me.
