COURAGEOUS Katy Evans battled exhaustion to swim a mile for charity.
The 27-year-old, from Petersfield, swam 64 lengths of a 25m pool at Bedales School, where she was once a student. Eighteen months ago Katy was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, which causes crippling pain, swollen joints and fatigue.
Katy said she was inspired to do the swim by Leigh Walmsley, who also has the condition and competed in archery in the Paralympics.
She was joined by her dad Chris and mum Sue in the pool and collectively they have raised more than £1,400 for the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
Katy said: ‘I am overwhelmed by the support that we received. The swim was a personal challenge for me, to prove that nothing is impossible despite my diagnosis with rheumatoid arthritis and my parents and sister were wonderful support swimming with me on the night.
‘I was exhausted, but so happy and proud of myself and my family.’
