OLDER people have been enjoying a spot of exercise at a chair-based class but that class faces closure unless more sponsors are found.
The class is held every week at Portchester Community Centre and has proved popular among older people.
Centre manager Lucy Redfern is appealing for more people to take part and for local businesses to come forward as sponsors so that the class can continue.
Mrs Redfern said: ‘We have been running a chair-based exercise class for older and less mobile people.
‘The class has been going really well but it’s run with funds from other events to keep the cost to the public down, but unfortunately money is running out.
‘To try and keep the group going we have started a campaign where local businesses can sponsor a session for £20, which covers the weekly running cost of the group.’
She said that local businesses have already signed up to the scheme and that she hopes this could keep the cost down for members.
Mrs Redfern said: ‘Already Portchester Engineering has donated £100 for five classes, which we are very grateful for.
‘But we are desperately looking for more sponsors, so if anyone can help then please get in touch.’
The class is run by instructor Susan Wieneke and takes place on Mondays from 1.30pm until 3pm at Portchester Community Centre.
Participants take part in low-impact exercise for the first hour, followed by tea and biscuits and socialising.
The sessions cost £2.50 per person and the class can take up to 15 people.
