CHARLES Dickens will be the theme for this year’s open day event at the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

Dickens Stories Tours featuring performances of Nicholas Nickleby and information about the author’s connection with the city will set the tone at the theatre from 10am to 5pm today.

There will be a preview show of David Copperfield by One Off Productions, ahead of its February tour at the Kings.

Visitors will also be able to take part in a range of dance, acting and model-making workshops on stage.

And people who bring instruments can perform with the Portsmouth Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as enjoy music from groups including the Solent City Choir.

Oliver Laurenson-Gore, education co-ordinator, said: ‘It’s going to be a great day out for the family.

‘We’re doing something a bit different this year to mark Dickens’ bicentenary which will add to all the high quality activities that people enjoy.’

Tickets on the door cost £5 per person or £12 per family.
