FIRE crews were called to tackle a kitchen blaze at a home.

Five firefighters from Southsea station responded to the call-out after the fire broke out at a property in Malta Road, Buckland, Portsmouth, at about 10.35am yesterday.

The crews spent about 35 minutes extinguishing the blaze, which left the kitchen badly damaged.

Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel were used by firefighters who attended the scene.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said that one woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by medics from South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

The blaze was put out by about 11.10am.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
