COFFEE queen Laska Goldsack has scooped the top spot when it comes to making the perfect hot drink.

The 25-year-old works as a barista at the Costa coffee store in Queen Alexandra Hospital, Cosham.

She has been crowned as the best barista in corporate sales after winning Costa’s Barista of the Year 2012 regional heat.

Laska created espressos, lattes, cappuccinos, flat white coffees and her own speciality drink that wowed the judges.

She will now compete against other top coffee makers in the Champion of Champion Finals in London next month in a bid to be the best Costa barista in the world.

Laska, who joined the coffee franchise in 2009, said: ‘I am so excited. I’m still in shock.

‘I can’t believe I won my regional final.

‘It’s an honour to win, but now I am really nervous about the finals.

‘It will be interesting to see what other baristas have created for their speciality drink and compete on an international level.’

Laska has created the Ristretto Salato, which contained a single ristretto – a short shot of expresso.

This is then added to coffee and almond cream and topped with salted caramel.

The Champion of Champion Finals will be held at on October 24.

If Laska is crowned the champion she will win a 10-day trip for two, with spending money to a country of her choice with a Costa coffee connection.

The Costa Barista of the Year competition was launched in the UK in 2006.

It operates on a global scale where contestants from all 24 markets can compete for the title.
