PEOPLE are being encouraged to vote for their citizens of the year in Fareham.

The awards allow people to nominate residents in the community who have helped others or shown an act of bravery. There are three different categories for different age groups.

The Citizen of Honour award, aged 18 and over and the Young Citizen of the Year award, for people aged between 12 and 18, are awarded in recognition of community and voluntary service which benefits the local community.

The Young Citizen of the Year, for children aged between four and 11, celebrates an outstanding act of bravery, a regular selfless act for others, or for overcoming and learning to adapt to a registered disability.

Winners will attend the Mayor Making event in May to receive their award badges and certificates. They will receive invitations as VIPs to a number of civic events, and £15 in vouchers.

Visit fareham.gov.uk/ citizenawards, or visit the civic offices.

The closing date is Tuesday.
