THE cultural calendar of the city is chockablock with events for the next 12 days as Portsmouth Festivities gets under way.

The festival celebrates art, music, theatre and dance and will draw world-famous performers to the region.

The festivities start tomorrow night with an evening of spiritual and classical music at Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral in Old Portsmouth.

A free ‘choral evensong’ concert starts at 6pm and will be followed by a classical performance featuring the London Mozart Players, Tim Posner and the BBC 2012 Young Musician of the Year Laura van der Heijden.

Saturday’s events kick off with a singing workshop hosted by the Swingle Singers, who are among the UK’s most exciting vocalists. The workshop takes place at Portsmouth Grammar School at 11am.

At midday there will be a ‘Seafood on the Green’ food and wine festival at the Anglican cathedral.
