Chichester woman falsely claimed £17,000 in benefits
CHICHESTER woman Felicity Heriot-Spence has been convicted of benefit fraud after illegally claiming almost £17,000.
The 40-year-old failed to declare all of her bank accounts when she first claimed money in 2008.
Worthing Magistrates’ Court heard during the period of her claim – from July 2008 to April 2011 – she failed to declare wages from seven different employers that came to more than £34,000 in total.
The court heard Heriot-Spence fraudulently claimed housing and council tax benefit.
She pleaded guilty to two charges of dishonestly making a false representation in order to obtain benefit.
Magistrates sentenced Heriot-Spence, of Chichester Drive, Tangmere, to 200 hours community work.
She was also ordered to pay £100 in costs.
Chichester District Council will now take steps to recover all overpaid benefit from Heriot-Spence.
