How the media changed after apartheid in South Africa is the subject of a lecture at the University of Portsmouth later this month.

The lecture From Apartheid to Democracy – A Media Perspective, by South African journalist and editor Piet van Niekerk, is the highlight of a series of events through October at the University to mark Black History Month.

The free lecture will be held in Portland building on October 28, from 6pm to 7pm. It will be followed by a drinks reception.

Mr Van Niekerk worked as a political correspondent and covered political unrest and murders, the release of Nelson Mandela from prison, the transition to democracy, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings and inquests into political hearings.
