THE coastguard helicopter at Lee-on-the-Solent was called to help with a rescue after a boat capsized.

The helicopter was conducting exercises with its Portland-based counterpart over The Needles when a call came in yesterday morning.

A small boat had capsized inside Poole Harbour at about 11am.

Two people were rescued from the water and transferred to hospital.

The helicopters then combed the area for several hours for a third man who was missing but the search was called off later in the afternoon.

Rescuers believe the man would have remained within the harbour area given
the tidal and weather conditions encountered during the search.
