More stalls than ever before packed Stockheath Common for Leigh Park’s annual community carnival.

On Saturday the Mayor of Havant, Cllr Ken Smith, opened the armed forces-themed event after a procession of colourful floats and musicians in military uniforms made its way from Front Lawn Recreation Ground.

The carnival featured more than 50 stalls run by local people and groups including the Leigh Park Women’s Institute, the local Rotary Club and various charities and volunteers.

There was a dove release to mark the occasion, and performances from South Zone Dance and the Leigh Park Community Choir.

Joan Stone, 63, of Finchdean Road, in Havant, brought her grandchildren Cody, eight, and Kacey, four, and said: ‘We come every year to support it, and they’ve got more stalls than ever. It’s brilliant considering the weather could be better.’
