Letter: God bless my granny

This is by far and away the hardest letter I’ve ever written.

My granny, Audrey Cannon, passed away last Thursday, very peacefully and surrounded by family, aged 88.

Thanks to all the NHS staff at QA Hospital who did such a great job of making her last few days in this world comfortable.

I’d like to pay tribute to my granny.

She was one of my most enthusiastic supporters. She would always cut out my letters to The News for me to add to my collection. It seems only fitting, therefore, I remember her in the best way I know how – in the letters pages.

She left this world as she lived, she was a fighter and at times hilarious, though not necessarily on purpose!

On the morning of the day she passed away, she asked the nurse for a cup of tea and a brandy!

Granny has been reunited with grandad, who she missed terribly, after less than six months apart.

I enclose a picture of them together at their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006.

I know she’ll be reading this in The News up in the sky.

Goodbye granny; I’ll miss you but you’re at peace now. God bless.
