BIOGRAPHER Andrew Lycett will open a new centre for fans of the creator of Sherlock Holmes.

The author is best-known for works including Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond and The Man Who Created Sherlock Holmes: The Life and Times of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

On Monday, he will open the Arthur Conan Doyle Collection – Lancelyn Green Bequest room, part of the Portsmouth History Centre at Portsmouth Central Library.

The collection, in a newly-designed suite on the library’s third floor, was left to the city by Richard Lancelyn Green.

It contains more than 40,000 items relating to Arthur Conan Doyle, his most famous creation, Sherlock Holmes and other facts and mementos of his life.

It’s hoped it will give people easier access to the collection’s archives and artefacts.

Mr Lycett will officially open the room at 11am.

The launch will be followed by family and young people’s events through the rest of school half-term week.
