HUNDREDS of pieces of litter have been collected in Gosport.

The Marine Conservation Society-organised survey at Stokes Bay saw five bags filled with medical waste, rubber, sanitary items, metal and pottery.

A report released yesterday showed the 30 volunteers collected 1,226 items, weighing 7.2kg.

The area surveyed last weekend, as part of a national initiative, was just 100m by 20m.

As reported, litter picks were also carried out at Stokes Bay and at Lee-on-the-Solent seafront.
