home-grown musical talent will be taking to the stage at this year’s Southsea Carnival.
The two-day event, which takes place on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, has a line-up of live music to entertain the crowds.
Artists will be taking to the stage from 11am and will be performing until 7pm.
Music organiser Nick Courtney, who owns Sweet Memories Record Shop in Fratton Road, Portsmouth, said: ‘We have got a completely new line-up at this year’s event and there will be music for all tastes.
‘About 90 per cent of the artists performing are from the area.
‘Music ranges from rock and ska to soul and hip-hop.
‘And the best thing is it’s all free so it’ll be a great day out for people of all ages and of different tastes.’
We’re still searching for this year’s carnival queen and taking in nominations.
But you need to enter as soon as possible as time is running out.
The queen will be given her formal title before the carnival procession begins on the Saturday. As well as being a star of the carnival, she will represent the city at other community events.
Women who can show commitment to their community are welcome to enter by this Saturday. To enter please provide the name of the person you wish to nominate and say in no more than 20 words why they should win.
Also include your name, address and contact number.
Send entries to Priya Mistry, The News Centre, Hilsea, Portsmouth, PO2 9SX.
