PEOPLE living in flats on a road known as ‘Loading Area Four’ are celebrating finally getting it a new name.

The road leading to flats, behind the former Yachtsman restaurant, in Mumby Road, Gosport, will be called Rona Place. Residents have named it after a charity’s sailing vessel tallship, Rona II.

The boat will be moored to the Gosport Ferry pontoon on Monday at 10.45am for the ceremony.

Peter Cardy, 67, a ‘Loading Area Four’ resident, said the new name will boost the area’s character.

He said: ‘There’s around six loading areas, they have all got street names except for this one.

‘It serves six flats here, 18, in Warrior Court and six new ones being built.

‘It’s got no character. This is a nice way of giving it some character.’

He praised Labour town ward councillor June Cully for her work in securing the name change.

Cllr Cully said: ‘The residents said they really want to make it something of an entrance.’
