11-year-old boy is rescued after becoming stuck in mud

FIREFIGHTERS rescued an 11-year-old boy after he became stuck in mud.

The independent lifeboat operated by the Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service (Gafirs) were called to an area off Quay Lane in Gosport at 6.35pm.

Around 15 firefighters from Gosport, Fareham and Havant fire stations attended and pulled the boy from the mud.

He was then checked over by an ambulance crew.

Chris Rudd from Gafirs, said: ‘We got paged by Solent Coastguard to an 11-year-old boy who was stuck in the mud.

‘With the rising tide, we had to make best speed to get there.

‘When we got there the fire brigade had their inflatable raft out. We just stood by in case we were needed. It was a bit shallow for us.’

One child had already got out of the mud by themselves, and another adult had gone in to be with the child while waiting for the emergency services.

The child was rescued using water rescue technicians and a rescue sled.
