£22m refit for Lancaster
PORTSMOUTH-based warship HMS Lancaster has returned to sea following a £22m refit.
The 16-month upgrade of the Type 23 frigate includes refurbishment of her engines and new weapon systems.
Lancaster – named after the Duke of Lancaster Her Majesty The Queen – had four new diesel generators fitted and all four turbine engines overhauled.
Commander Steve Moorhouse said: ‘I feel extremely privileged to command Lancaster as we emerge from an extended refit period with state-of-the-art weapon technologies, powerful engines and a ship’s company that is well trained and highly motivated.’
Lancaster will have sea trials before returning to front-line duties later this year.
