A royal honour for yachtswoman Dee

Record-breaking sailor Dee Caffari has been awarded a prestigious honour by the Princess Royal.

Former teacher Dee, from Titchfield, received the exceptional achievement award from the United Kingdom Sailing Academy. She received it from Princess Anne at the academy's Celebrating Achievement Award ceremony in Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

She said: 'I carried out my training at the UKSA on the Isle of Wight and they provided me with a fantastic grounding for my sailing career.

'I have very fond memories of my time at the academy and this award is a great honour.'

The 36-year-old holds the record for being the first woman to sail solo non-stop around the world in both directions.
