Adam Ant 'living in fear' after gig slurs

Foul-mouthed pop star Adam Ant is 'in fear for his life' in the aftermath of comments he made following a vile on-stage rant at a Christian charity performance.

The 1980s icon, who has a history of mental illness, is facing calls to leave Portsmouth after he accused all locals of being 'gangsters' in a heated interview with The News yesterday.

The comments came the day after he verbally attacked a family audience at a gig to raise money for starving Filipino children at The Oasis Centre, Landport.

The Prince Charming star - who has been holidaying in Portsmouth - is said to be scared to leave his hotel room at The Lady Hamilton, The Hard, Portsmouth.

Adam Ant's roadie 'Iggy' said: 'All the Portsea people are getting really horrible with Adam. We've had people downstairs saying Adam Ant should get out of Portsmouth.

'The comments about people in Portsmouth being gangsters have really upset people. We don't know what to do. Adam is really upset, he doesn't want to leave his room.

'He's in fear for his life but I don't know if he'll leave.'

The claims were played down by a staff member at the pub, who said: 'People are here but it's for a party, that's all.'
