Adult social care set for a revamp

A radical revamp of adult social care will be considered by councillors at a meeting of Hampshire County Council's cabinet on Monday.

The new system is aimed at providing help, information and advice to everyone who lives in Hampshire, whether or not they are eligible for adult social services.

Another aim is to give people more choice, control and power over the support services they receive.

Among the changes recommended is Free Crisis Care, which aims to offer free care, for up to six weeks, to those at risk of hospitalisation or who are at the point of discharge from hospital.

There are also plans to give individuals more choice and control, through discussions with their social worker, over how money is used for their social care.

The new model also aims to offer more information and advice services for carers and families.

There are more than 100,000 unpaid carers in Hampshire, of whom about 20,000 provide more than 50 hours of care a week.

At the meeting councillors will hear how changes to adult services are coming on.
