MOTORISTS are being reassured they will be given support during the closure of a major road route in Portsmouth.
As previously reported in The News, Northern Road Bridge, in Cosham, will close to general traffic for 20 weeks from February 13 while part of the structure is demolished and replaced.
Workers from Colas and the council will be in Northern Road directing motorists and keeping traffic flowing at key junctions during the first few days. They will also monitor areas of Cosham where there is potential for congestion.
A one-way system has been introduced around High Street for the duration of the closure to help improve traffic flow.
Workers will be out in the roads ensuring people stick to the new system, which dictates that motorists have to go via Wootton Street and Wayte Street to get to the top of High Street.
Management of the area will be carried out from the council’s traffic control centre.
Project manager Ashley Chaplin said: ‘During this change and disruption we ask for all road users to be extra vigilant and obey the new traffic signing and parking restrictions in the area. Please allow extra time for your journey during the closure as well as taking the advice of personnel stationed at key points during the first few days. This will ensure delays and disruption will be kept to a minimum for everyone.’
