All aboard for a ride on some vintage buses
You wait 70 years for one, but 92 vintage buses turned up at once on Sunday, at a rally run by a local appreciation society.
Hundreds of people attended the Provincial Society's Provincial Bus Rally at Stokes Bay, Gosport, where 92 vintage buses, including one from the 1930s, were on display.
Society chairman John Sherwin said: 'It's been a great day. Lots of people have come out and it's good we've been able to have so many vintage buses on display for them.
'I think we were helped by the fact that it was bad weather on Saturday and good weather on Sunday, so people came out, but it's been a lovely day and everyone's had a great time.'
The buses on show were 'open' for the public to take a look around, and later in the day 70 of the vehicles took part in a parade along Stokes Bay Road, Grange Road, Forton Road and Jellicoe Avenue.
Passengers included Gosport Mayor Councillor Diane Searle and the society's honorary president Richard Soper.
They rode in a 1940s bus which had been operated in Gosport and the surrounding area by Provincial.
Mr Sherwin said: 'People really liked the buses from the 1930s and 1940s and it's great they were able to ride in a bus which served during the war years.'
