Andronikou 'worried' by Lloyd's 'hearts and minds' approach

Pompey administrator Andrew Andronikou has spoken of his worry that prospective new owner Rob Lloyd has gone to the fans before him.

The property tycoon met with a select group of fans yesterday as he went public with the bid he is fronting to take over the club.

But Mr Andronikou is concerned that Mr Lloyd is trying to woo the fans before putting in the financial legwork with him.

The administrator said: 'If this guy wants to buy Portsmouth, my message is "Please come and buy the club", but I am bemused and more than slightly worried by his approach to win the hearts and minds of the supporters before coming to see me.

'We have spoken to the professionals involved, but not the person himself, and when you are signing non-disclosure agreements, it worries you that they then go and make public statements.

'I am sure this is a creditable bid - it certainly seems it judging by the professional I have so far met, but I need to know far more.

'I need to know who else is involved. We need to find a fit and proper person, not a chancer, and I am not saying this guy is a chancer, but there have been too many mistakes in the past with the owners of this club.

'At the moment, all I can say is that he has gone behind my back and that worries me.

'I am looking for the right person to sell the club to, someone who ticks all the right boxes. Rob Lloyd appears to be credible and tick the right boxes but I need to make sure.

'But because there have been so many mistakes I am not going to jump in at the first person. I would rather wait a week or two and examine this offer and the others that are coming in.

'I have been told, for example, that Rob Lloyd has connections to another Premier League club. I have no idea if that is the case, or what those connections are, but I would need to find out.'

It is believed Mr Lloyd plans to take the position of club chairman, but will only be the frontman for a 'major investor', from an American hedge fund and a consortium of bidders. Mr Lloyd told fans the mystery backer would remain anonymous for now.

But the administrator is said to want far more details about who else is involved in the consortium.
