Anti Wickham Labs protest passes peacefully

Police outnumbered protesters at an annual march against a controversial animal testing laboratory.

About 50 animal rights activists gathered for the march on Saturday to protest the treatment of animals at Wickham Labs in Wickham, near Fareham.

The group marched along the A32 to the labs where they laid wreathes and read poems for the animals.

Jeanette McClunan, of Stop Wickham Animal Testing (SWAT), said: 'It went very well but sadly some of them couldn't make it because of an accident over towards Brighton, so they were held up in the traffic, which was a shame.

'There was no trouble whatsoever and it all went according to plan.

'We met with the police a few weeks ago to agree the route. There were definitely more of them than us though, which seemed strange because we didn't have any trouble here last year.'

The police confirmed that the annual event passed off without any trouble from the protesters.
