STUDENTS were given a taste of life in the armed forces after an army corporal spoke to them as part of their studies.
Corporal Trevor Giles, from the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps, was invited to speak to a group of BTEC Public Services students at Gosport’s St Vincent School.
He spoke to the pupils about his time in Kenya working on a mass vaccination programme, and two stints in Afghanistan in 2006 and 2009.
Cpl Giles, from Gosport, was based at the Camp Bastion field hospital where he cared for wounded soldiers from the front line.
Teacher Ian Wellington said: ‘Trevor gave an excellent talk about life in the modern army.
‘One of the things our exam board insists we do is give the students exposure to the real world of public services and Trevor did just that.’
Cpl Giles is based at the Ministry of Defence hospital unit at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
He said: ‘This is the first time I have done anything like this but I enjoyed it.’
