Arson probe launched after Hayling Island caravan is burned-out

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a caravan was destroyed by fire.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Southwood Road, Eastoke, Hayling Island, at about 3.20am yesterday.

Fire had engulfed a caravan that was parked at the front of a bungalow.

A crew from Havant and Hayling Island put out the blaze.

No-one was inside the caravan when the fire broke out.

Martin Elliott, watch manager for Havant, said: ‘It affected the property and had melted some of the doors, windows and guttering.

‘No-one was hurt but the caravan is now a total burn-out.

‘There’s nothing left of it.’

Police are investigating whether the blaze was started deliberately.

Fire engines were also called to tackle a small kitchen fire in Racton Road, Emsworth, at about 11.05pm on Saturday.

A chip pan had caught fire while the family living at the home had fallen asleep. A smoke alarm alerted them to the danger.
